Men’s Olympic Basketball 2012: USA Ready for Gold

Now that pool play is done, and Team USA has shown Argentina they can turn it on when due, they are ready for the medal rounds.  They have Australia in the quarterfinals and will face either Argentina or Brazil as they are facing each other.

Team USA can win against either team, but things look a little better against Argentina as Brazil does have some size that the USA would have to contend with.  With only Tyson Chandler as the proven big man, that would be something to contend with.

The USA could get some revenge against Argentina as they are the last Olympic defeat for the Americans.  What better way to knock out an opponent and seek out some retribution at the same time.

But first things are first, and USA has to get by Australia, and once again, I would love to see a dominating performance.  The type of defeats that 1992 Dream Team put together, no more wins by 5 points.  But complete games in which Lebron James, Carmelo Anthony, Kobe Bryant, Chris Paul, and so on are in control from start to finish.

That’s the type of performance this year’s team needs to put together in the medal rounds.  Can you imagine if somehow this team lost before the gold medal game?  Even if they somehow lose that game, there would be lots of chatter.  That’s why they HAVE to win.  There’s no ifs, ands, or buts about it.  Team USA for the gold or this is a failure.  That’s some pressure, but with the men on this team, that’s the type of pressure that comes along with playing.  Time to step up the game, and prove to the world they are the best in the world.
