Team USA Men's Basketball 2012: Dominant or Close Games?

Well after the score of today’s game, you have to wonder whether Team USA is fully ready to show the world what they can do.  They win by 83 points a couple of games ago, but then get a scare today against Lithuania 99-94.  Lebron James had to step up his game at the end and carry USA across the finish line.  Something he’s known for, and should be called upon to do.

The big question coming out of today, and something I caught on ESPN radio today was would Americans be happy with close games or domination by Team USA. My answer was easy to come up with, DOMINATION.

The thing with this year’s team is there’s been so much talk about the past and this year’s team that they have to destroy opponents.  Once again, 1992 Dream Team’s closest game was 32 points.  That’s right, their smallest margin of victory was 32 points.

This year’s team won today’s game by 5 and could have been in danger of losing.  That doesn’t bode well for the argument of which team was better.  Granted, it’s not an issue anyways as we’ll never know in a game who would win.  But with this team talking about how they are better than the originals, they have to dominant.  It’s one thing to talk, but another thing to act upon that talk.

Once things really get rolling, this year’s team better put out some great performances or I think there will be talk that this year’s team isn’t that good.  Even with a gold medal, if the games are like today, you’ll hear about how they could have been better.

What do you want to see?
