Roy Hibbert Will Earn His Pay

Now that Roy Hibbert is officially back as an Indiana Pacer, this will be a season to see that he’s worth the money.  My mindset all along was to pay Hibbert whatever was needed to keep him around.  You look at the names of free agents floating around, and none of them would have made this Pacers team better or that much better.  So in keeping up with the Joneses of the East, the Pacers had to keep their starting line up in tact.

Roy Hibbert can be an integral part of this offense.  It might run all through him, but I would look for the Pacers to make some emphasis on his ability in the post.  Therefore, he will need to work on his game a bit, and continue this surge in confidence that he had going last season.

I know it’s a simple thing to look at, but I did see Hibbert carry himself so much better last season.  You could see him shooting the ball better, especially with that soft touch he has around the basket.  Most times, he looks like he’s tossing it up there, and it goes in rather easy.

You could see him become a better defender in that paint area. Maybe not getting the block, but getting a hand in the player’s face to make a more difficult shot.

Of course those are areas he can improve as well. I do think that Hibbert will improve.  Some guys get their big pay day, and stop working.  I might be naive in thinking Hibbert won’t get that way, but the fact that he’s improved as much as he has, makes me believe he can get better.

The Pacers had to keep Hibbert around if they wanted to get this team going in that right direction that started last season.  No sense in bringing another guy that can’t perform as well or wouldn’t be a guy that has the room for potential as Hibbert does.

What do you think about the Pacers keeping around Roy Hibbert?
