Talking Pacers on HoopSmack

The many fine gents who run HoopSmack were gracious enough to invite me onto their podcast to talk about the Pacers. Given my ability to drone on and monopolize the conversation, we ended up talking solely Indiana hoops for the whole first half hour or so. After that comes some general NBA playoffs talk.

Enjoy.

    Jared,

i really enjoyed the podcast, and i appreciate having someone eloquent and well-informed acting as the voice of Pacers fans across the blogosphere.. you sounded like a true professional, particularly on a podcast that seems like it otherwise has the entertainment value of listening to a group of nervous teenagers broadcasting their high school announcements.

as a lifelong Pacers fan and Indy native now living in Spain, i get really tired of hearing from my Spanish friends about how the NBA is all one-on-one and pure physicality and the successful teams are the ones who have the biggest stars. I have a real sense of pride when i tell people to watch this Pacers team and see how they play team ball, and i’m sure they won’t disappoint against Miami. Anyway, i’ve been frequenting this site for about a year and a half now, as it’s really the only place in the world where i can geek out on Pacers info, especially while i am over here, and i just wanted to chime in to let you know that i love what you’re doing, and keep up the good work!

Nice. I had wondered how you had become a Pacers fan (also believing you were from NYC).

I think you’re giving the fans casting the “thug” moniker too much credit though. That term has been applied far too liberally and in some cases, I think it’s clearly racially charged (as Kravitz had the balls to point out). Also, I think the evidence of fairweather fandom in this town is mounting.

But like you, I’m holding out hope that more fans come around. And I also think other organizations fudge their attendance numbers.
