Atlanta Hawks

(40-26, 2nd Southeast Division, 5th Seed Eastern Conference)

The Hawks to me were just one of those teams that not a lot of press was made, but they had a good season none the less.  Right in the middle of the Eastern Conference, and could have snuck into that third seed if the Pacers faltered.  They ended up the fifth seed and played a tough series with the Boston Celtics, a team that got hot right at the end of the season and used that to win the playoff series.

The Hawks had a rough first part of the schedule as they played the Chicago Bulls and Miami Heat each two times in a five game stretch.  They split each series there, and never seemed to get going that much in the right direction.

Looking over their schedule, it’s win a few games and lose a couple of games.  Or win a couple of games and lose a game.  Just not enough momentum to really state their case that they were ready for that top half of the Eastern Conference.

The Hawks did beat my Indiana Pacers in the season series.  And they did beat Oklahoma City in March.  Some good wins for this Hawks team.  But never enough to get going, and they should be able to put this same team together next year for a run.

I didn’t give them much of a chance in the Boston series, but they did win a couple of games and had a chance to win last night.  They didn’t put it together in last night’s game, and now go home for the off season.
