Dallas Mavericks Season Recap

As teams get eliminated, I will put a small recap of their season.  Then, I want to go back at the end of the playoffs and wrap up each division, and how teams fared.  So unforunately, Dallas Mavericks, you are my first team to wrap up.

Dallas Mavericks (36-30, 3rd in Southwest Division, 7th Seed West)

The Mavericks’ season has ended as of last night’s loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder with a sweep. Not exactly the way, the defending champs thought they would go out. But from the beginning of the season, this didn’t look like the same Mavs team that put together the championship season last year.

They lost their first game of the regular season to the same team they just beat in the NBA Finals the year before, the Miami Heat.  Sure that’s just the first game of the season, but it’s not a good way to open up the season.

Actually three straight losses to the start of the season hit the Mavericks before they finally beat Toronto to get things going on the right track.  January saw them get very hot as they went 13-5.  Things looked like they might be on the right track for the Mavs.

A couple of three game losing streaks hit the Mavs in February, and who knew the San Antonio Spurs would be as hot as they got.  It was hard catching up to the Spurs as they ran out to a large lead in the division.

Even the Memphis Grizzlies got going, and finished up in second place for the Southwest Division.  The Mavs dropped out of the top half of the Western Conference, and ends up in seventh seed for the playoffs.

The Oklahoma City Thunder took care of the Mavs in four straight games, and who knows what the Mavs will look like next year.  Jason Kidd might be back for another year.  Dirk Nowitzki will be back again.  But what else will be there?  Can the Mavs actually lure Derron Williams to come there, and give them a great point guard?  Questions will be lingering for this Mavs team, but at least they picked up a championship last year.
