Running the Point

A couple of weeks ago, and at different parts of the season, I’ve heard the debate about who should start George Hill or Darren Collison at the point position for the Pacers. I was on the side of Darren Collison starting, then I jumped to George Hill possibly getting the nod, and back to Collison and so on. But after the recent weeks, I have to say that Collison should start and Hill should be the backup.

I think Hill has really embraced his role as the backup and actually thrived in this role. He looks very comfortable running that second unit. He has worked a little bit with the starters, but that was more of a hey George Hill is really looking good now, so let’s go with it.

Collison has looked to really step up his game over the past five or so games as well. He’s looking to push the ball and make sure the open man gets a good pass to make a shot. He looks like a real general out on the floor. He brings a good passion to the team when he plays.

It’s a good problem to have with this situation of two possible starting point guards. While both guys have their strengths and weakeness, the best strength is when they are out on the floor and playing their best basketball. Both guys help this team run well, and it’s a pleasure to have both guys on this team. Who would you want to start on this team?
