Dre Alvarez has put together a nice table over at Wages of Wins that shows the total win/loss numbers and win percentage of current NBA owners.
I know, I’m throwing a lot of numbers stuff at you today, but hey, even people who hate math have to venture into this territory during a lockout. But don’t worry, there’s not a whole lot of math to it as he’s already done most of that for you.
But it’s interesting to take a look at what kind of success certain owners have had over a certain amount of time.
Mark Cuban tops the list in terms of win percentage at 69% since 2000, which is extremely impressive to say the least. And while there are two owners below him (Prokhorov and Leonsis don’t really count since they’ve only been there a year), Donald Sterling is clearly at the bottom due to that excellent winning percentage of 34% since 1981.
And right in the middle? Pacers’ owner Herb Simon, who has amassed 1,135 wins and 1,129 losses in his tenure, which is right at 50%.
Everyone always talks about who the best owners in the league are, but one thing that doesn’t lie is the numbers. There’s nothing ground-breaking in this, however, it’s a nice little resource to have when your looking at just how good or how bad specific owners have been during their run.
While we would obviously want Simon’s numbers to be better based on the last several season, let’s just be thankful that they are nowhere near Sterling territory.
Very, very thankful.
