T.J. Ford will be backing up Darren Collison this year at point guard. Many thought he would become a free agent or somehow get traded, but he is still with the team.
“I thought there would be more options for me to be traded in the summertime with all the movement going on,” Ford told The Indianapolis Star. “There was talk about a possible deal, but it didn’t happen and once the deal didn’t go through, they started talking about a buyout. That’s when I knew I would be back.”
The Pacers did offer the point guard a $5 million buyout and an $8.5 million buyout salary.
“I don’t see any reason why I should have to take less money,” said Ford. “My contract says I’m scheduled to make a certain amount of money, and that’s what I expect to get paid.”
Ford’s contract will in fact end this season, and he’s definitely not going to be re-signed.
