For the whole off-season, many were doubting the Indiana Pacers and their chances of being successful and getting some big deals. Many were complaining about why they didn’t make any signings or any trades. They even stretched to the point of the team’s leader, Danny Granger, leaving! But Indy finally made a trade, and they finally proved all the cocky naysayers wrong. Finally.

The Indiana Pacers acquired forward James Posey and point guard Darren Collison from the New Orleans Hornets in a four-team, five-player trade. Indy finally got rid of Troy Murphy, and Posey may be moved to fill in for him. Meanwhile, Murphy goes on and gets headed to the New Jersey Nets. This trade also included Trevor Ariza heading to the Hornets to help out Chris Paul.

“We said at the beginning of the summer that we were going to be patient and don’t make drastic moves just to make a move,” Pacers president Larry Bird said. “We have a plan here. It’s a three-year plan, and I expect to get the job done in three years.”

This really benefits the Pacers. They have been wanting a better power forward a nice, young, starting point guard who can nicely team up with T.J. Ford, A.J. Price, and Lance Stephenson. This deal goes well with a bunch of other stars like Granger, Roy Hibbert, Paul George, and others.

“I think it helps out tremendously,” Bird said. “I think this was the piece that we needed. The vision I have for this franchise is to get the core group up and ready to go as quick as we can, and this piece here will accelerate everything.”

I think Murphy can really help out New Jersey and give them the productivity he had in Indy.

“We are very pleased to add Troy to our roster,” Nets general manager Billy King said. “He is a quality power forward who has the ability to stretch the floor, and we feel that he will be a very positive addition to our frontcourt rotation.”

With this addition, Indy’s depth chart will look like this:

PG: Darren Collison, Lance Stephenson, T.J. Ford, A.J. Price

SG: Dahntay Jones, Brandon Rush

SF: Danny Granger, Paul George, Mike Dunleavy

PF: James Posey, Tyler Hansbrough, Josh McRoberts

C: Roy Hibbert, Jeff Foster, Solomon Jones

I think Indy can easily snag the  eighth seed and be playoff contenders. Easily. Case closed. Guess Larry Bird isn’t such a bad general manager after all, now.
