Pistons Interested in McGrady

The Detroit Pistons are reportedly interested in free-agent shooting guard/small forward Tracy McGrady. McGrady is still expressing interest from the Chicago Bulls and it seems likely that one of the two NBA Central division teams will have the best chance at getting him than other teams in the other divisions.

Most likely, however, T-Mac will probably end up with Detroit. The Pistons have already reportedly offered a deal to the aging All-Star, as he may sign to a one-year $1.35 million contract. The only reason the deal hasn’t been accepted, agreed, and done is because team officials are reportedly taking the weekend off to discuss more on this possible acquisition.

It seems as if the Bulls will not acquire McGrady due to the recent signing of Keith Bogans. So, all-in-all, T-Mac will in fact go to Detroit in my opinion. The 31-year-old hopes to get back in shape and healthy again after recently just going through some injuries. He last played with the New York Knicks after getting traded from the Houston Rockets during the trade deadline in the 2009-10 season.

The former All-Star will make the Pistons’ shooting guard/small forward rotation very strong with the likes of Rodney Stuckey, Richard Hamilton, Tayshaun Prince, Ben Gordon, and Will Bynum. With little need at those positions, Joe Dumars likes the possibilities here, however. The depth chart will most likely look like this if T-Mac comes to the team:

PG: Rodney Stuckey/Will Bynum

SG: Richard Hamilton/Tracy McGrady/Ben Gordon

SF: Tayshaun Prince/Austin Daye/DaJuan Summers

PF: Jonas Jerekbo/Greg Monroe/Charlie Villanueva

C: Ben Wallace/Chris Wilcox/Jason Maxiell

The Pistons look to enter a nice season with T-Mac in the building.
