History In the Making?
By Josh Dhani
The Orlando Magic made a sign to the Boston Celtics before Game Five went down last night:
They aren’t giving up.
And they did just that on the court, pulling out a win with a score of 113-92.
Jameer Nelson came up big in the match-up, totaling up 24 points along with five rebounds and five assists for the Orlando Magic.
Center Dwight Howard also played well with 21 points and ten rebounds. He also had five blocked shots.
He is the first player to have over 20 points, ten rebounds, and five blocked shots for five games in the post-season since San Antonio Spurs’ center Tim Duncan did it during his run to the 2007 NBA Finals; eventually knocking off the Cleveland Cavaliers in a sweep there.
He is ranked second in the league for most games with over 20 points, ten rebounds, and five blocked shots. He is behind Tim Duncan and ahead of Shaquille O’Neal.
Overall, though, it was a great game played by the Magic.
Now the Magic will try to even up the series tomorrow in a Game Six match-up at Boston.
“I don’t know if you can say you have momentum when you’re down 3-2 going into their place,” Magic coach Stan Van Gundy said. “I still look at it like we’re climbing a huge mountain here. But we are playing better.”
This brings me to a question.
We remember seeing the Boston Celtics leading this series, 3-0. At this point, it seemed the series was over. But it wasn’t, when Orlando got a win in Game Four.
Okay, so they got one win. So what. That tends to happen and Boston will get them in Game Five.
Well, the Magic won that now and are only behind one game. So what does this mean, now?
It changes things. Remember, the Magic are undefeated for the last few years in the post-season during the elimination games like Game Fives, Sixes, Sevens…yeah.
So how do we know the Magic can win this? No team in the history of the NBA has ever won a series after they were down 3-0.
Well, folks, it’s going to happen someday.
And this may be the time for it to happen.
I am still rooting for the Boston Celtics to get to the NBA Finals, but just think how great and also crazy it would be if Orlando were to manage to win this series.
Just amazing. More amazing than the NBA motto explains it.
Can Orlando make history? I think they can. They are an experienced squad and can shoot really well, like they did last night. Could they outshoot the C’s tomorrow night? They can.
If the Magic tie the series, it changes a lot, and it would mean another thing as well: All the momentum now belongs in the palm of their hands now.
If they can keep doing the shooting, they can get a win. But they need to be careful. The Magic have been often criticized too much of shooting too many three’s.
They have to be careful in order to win this thing.
Dwight Howard will have to play his absolute hardest and be the best player he can be. Jameer Nelson, keep doing your thing. You are doing great so far.
I really would like to see Mikael Pietrus and J.J. Reddick step it up more. Same for Vince Carter. It would be nice. Stopping Rajon Rondo is the key, too.
Let’s make it easier, stop the Big Three. No, the Big Four now with Rondo, Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, and Paul Pierce.
The Magic need to watch out.
Boston may play differently now, since they know what is coming towards them.
Right now, we don’t what’s going to happen. But what’s happening right now is history in the making.
And the Magic can complete that.
