Clipping It Together

The Los Angeles Clippers really didn’t have an enjoyable year.

But there is something enjoyable to look for.

The off-season. In the 2010 NBA Draft, the Clippers are projected to get Cole Aldrich. But what’s the point in that when you have Blake Griffin, Drew Gooden, and Chris Kaman?

But even if they do get him, it won’t fill in the spot the Clippers need to fill in at the most: small forward.

Let’s face it, the Los Angeles Clippers are weak at that spot. I don’t think there’s a chance in the world they are able to land LeBron James. Don’t expect it. The Clippers best bet is Rudy Gay.

But my idea is to not get Rudy Gay.

“Why not, he’s the perfect fit!” is probably some NBA fan would say. But there is someone else who would probably fit in this Clippers’ system better.

Joe Johnson.

Johnson is the missing man in Los Angeles.

“But he is a shooting guard,” is another thing you might say. Yes, yes, he is in fact a shooting guard. And yes, the Clippers already have their shooting guard for the future in Eric Gordon.

And no, I’m not saying he won’t be a point guard. He just doesn’t fit there and that spot is reserved for Mr. Beardman Baron Davis.

So where the hell we he be?

Well, there’s one obvious choice here, ain’t it? Small forward. The Clippers need a scorer, and Johnson is coming off a year with 21.3 PPG, 4.9 APG, and 4.6 RPG.

Those stats, to me, make it good enough for him to be a small forward. Along with that, check out his size, too. He’s a 6’8″ 240-pound athlete with speed. He’s a lot of gas left in the tank and at 28 years old: can make a difference for L.A.

Baron Davis has already proven a while ago he’s a fierce point guard. I’ve seen Eric Gordon play in college and on his way up to the NBA, and he’s damn good.

Chris Kaman is coming off a great season. And even though Blake Griffin was out last year, it doesn’t mean he’s bad. He’s questionable. But Johnson is the missing key.

Maybe the Clips can finally make the playoffs, with this guy.
