Pacers Top Squires 112-101

Note: Hey guys, I am starting a new series. I just started reading this book called Loose Balls which chronicles the ABA. Then I checked out Lex Nihil Novi’s blog and they showing every season of the Celtics. I decided to start my own now. The series is called “Remembering the Pacers,” as I chronicle season-by-season of the Indiana Pacers. This is gonna take as long as hell and if anyone wants to help me with this, would be glad. I start with the 1975-1976 season, where I actually find the schedule/results of this team as early as possible. In their first game that season, they top the Virginia Squires, 112-101……

October 24, 1975

The Pacers were once down eleven points in this matchup, but thanks to Billy Knight with his game-high 36 points—including 26 of them coming in the second half—the Pacers got the victory over the Virginia Squires 112-101 to open up the 1975-1976 season 1-0.

Indiana was in trouble at the start of the game, trailing 24-13 in the first quarter. But the Pacers marched in the second—which included a miraculous 14-2 run—to end the half 48-46 with the lead. It was over from there.

Indiana will host the Kentucky Colonels tomorrow on a beautiful Saturday. It looks to be a good one.

Much thanks to the News and Courier archive of October 24, 1975.
